Cant Boot XP ..NTLDR is missing
Upon Boot I get the message "NTLDR is missing , ctrl alt del to restart. I have an Emachines T2792 with windows xp home edition OEM. I have recently scanned and tested the hard drive and wrote zeros to the drive .When I try to use the restore cds , ...No setup screen ...just a blinking "_" in the top left corner , then after a few minutes , the NTLDR is missing message .
I have downloaded the 6 disk xp setup disks from microsoft and that didnt work either ... uPON INSERTING THE RESTORE CD 1 , THE DRIVE SPINS AND STOPS AND SPINS AND STOPS THEN THE ntldr MESSAGE . Someone told me I should Press del key repeatedley when system starts up , but that just brings me to the bios setup. I was also told to try bypassing the bios with F8 or F11, but F8 does nothing ...and F11 takes me to a different bios setup with a lot more options than the one I get by pressing DEL ... such as advanced chipset controls : Fan speeds , Power options , Options for the internal graphics device , etc. I also tried booting from a Dos floppy ( I have DOS 6.22 disks and used them to create a boot floppy) but I cant seem to access the cd rom to copy the NTLDR file. So what if I WAS able to access The Restore cds , which of the three disks has the files I need ,and where do I copy them TO? AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH What can I do ? |

you did the correct thing with F8 to get into bios.
once in there you need to set the boot order to boot first from the cd rom drive. after that change has been made your restore cd should work. |
