non system disk error

Hi guys , just a quick one . when you get the non system disk error on screen at boot . Is there a quick way of restoring the o/s without a re install ???

Guess it would depend on why the error is there. The drive could have died...

Just ran a drive test through the bios , and it failed halfway through. looks like its as dead as one of my old tank tops ..

three simple steps!!

1 check the bios to see if it lists all of the HDD's and CD drivers on the IDE menu
for me once the cdrw drive was not listed and i had to install it manually

2 make sure all removable storage is unplugedd/removed

3 on the resture/install cd start up from CMD/recovery prompt Fdisk/mbr for xp home
or fixboot -- fixmbr command xp pro

if this fails use a live cd os and check the disk usage on the ntfs partition if empty, you will have to start over.
