registry help needed

Okay so I am stupid but I did something - and I honestly have no idea exactly what it was - but I can no longer use my CD/DVD drive! I go into set up and set up recognizes it so I know its okay as far as that goes, but in device manager, the properties for the drive say that there is something missing from the registry and my hardware cannot work due to it.

I have major issues, cause I cannot use system restore (no restore points back far enough from when I noticed it) and I have absolutely no idea what the heck is missing.
I do know ONE thing though. The event viewer log shows that my driver "cdudf_xp" did not load at boot.
Now, I know that file exists, I searched for and found it.
I have two systems running windows xp and I tried to compare the two registries and that did not do me much good.....

Why do i have the feeling that none of you guys are going to be able to help me on this one...?
Come on...who's up for a challenge??
Please....

are you using Roxio Easy CD Creator?? the file cdudf_xp is associated with that program. Uninstall Roxio and reinstall it, and it should solve your problem. Roxio have a patch on their website to address this issue, you should download the patch as well.

This might seem obvious, but have you tried deleting the drive out of Device Manager then rebooting and letting XP re-find it and set it up again?

Oh, the thing i had not tried was the Easy cd creator idea....Yes, I tried the other one about uninstalling and rebooting but that did not work. I appreciate the idea though...

Now, about the easy cd creator, I forgot that I already DID uninstall that liek months ago....and my problem is a few weeks old...what should i do, if anything, about that file and program??

I don't know how you uninstalled the Roxio program, but if it was uninstalled incorrectly it may have messed something up. You might try re-installing the program and then going through the uninstall process again, either by using the uninstaller that came with the program (if it has one) or through the Add/Remove Programs area in the Control Panel and see if by chance it just messed something up on the uninstall.
