encountered error will shut down

specks, dfi AK-76SN REV. A ,1.4 amd tb, 512 2100 memory. w2k os.
after several years i decided to format this pc, it's my standby. it went well, installed os, then mb drivers (miniport first then ide amd drives) after i installed mb drivers it blue screened and showed several things i don't remember all . anyway i tried repair -didn't work, had to re install os and everything worked fine till i installed mb drivers then it quit again. anyway to make along story short i left out mb drivers, set up everything and all was well, except every now and then (maybe once a day ) i'll get -IE encountered error and will be shutting down-- this also happens when on firefox browser- firefox encountered error etc. do you think it's because of the mb drivers??? I cleaned everything checked all cabels, memory etc. all seems to be ok. temp is ok. it's not a big deal just annoying.

Have you tried putting in the Win2k service packs? Are you using the drivers from the net?
Personally, I would slipstream in and load Win2k with the latest SP; and see if the hardware incompatibilities are addressed. Am guessing that since this is a VIA chipset; it is going to be largely problematic. The newer SP's should not require you to use any VIA released drivers.

yes i have installed sp4 and all the current updates, i built this thing several years ago and have not had any problems (until this) should have left well enough alone i guess. i down loaded the latest MB drivers from dfi and when i installed them it went to the blue screen again, however this time it had memory dump then would restart.
