Windows XP Restarts

I just finished the build of a new PC last week, but over the weekend and today, my PC will restart suddenly. I do not hear any sounds and have not received the dreaded blue screen of death, but I am assuming it's due to something I have installed.

I am running Windows XP on an Asus A8N-E mobo with 1GB of memory. I have not installed a whole lot yet onto my PC, but I am wondering how I can pinpoint where the problem is. Thanks.

Same Problem

A good friend of mine just built a new computer using the same board and has the same issues. The only thing that hasn't been done yet is to replace the PSU with a quality brand name (ie Antec) one. We have updated every driver and performed all updates. The only thing I can suggest is to flash the BIOS and upgrade all drivers it none of that works upgrade the PSU unless you already have one....Good Luck, he has learned to just deal with it, it reboots about once every 4 hours.

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
Disable the Auto restart feature so it will display the BSOD. You can use the error message on the blue screen to help troubleshoot the problem. Go to Start>right click My Computer>properties>Advanced tab>Start up and Recovery Settings button> untick the Automatically Restart on failure

Thank you for the suggestion so I can see that dreaded blue screen. I was able to pick up the error:

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

And it pertains to the NVTcp.sys which is related to the NVIDIA Ethernet controller, I think. Does anyone know if there's an update for this driver or if I should just buy an ethernet card or use my wireless card to avoid the problem? I don't want to tear apart the PC again unless it's absolutely necessary. Thanks.

this is a known issue with this mobo and the NVIDIA onboard ethernet, you are not alone. Follow this advice, start by disabling the NVIDIA firewall, that seems to cut down on the BSOD
