XP update problems
I am running XP with the SP2 update and have never had any problems until recently when trying to run the windows update. I get the small yellow shield in my taskbar telling updates are avaliable and when I click on it starts the process but always returns the message update could not be installed. It has always been trying to update:
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - September 2005 (KB890830) Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130 Any thoughts? |

Download Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and run it. It will take a few minutes to run and when done will show you all updates you have, whether they are correctly installed and working, and any updates you are missing. It will also check quite a few vulnerabilities for you and advise how to correct any problems it finds.

not trying to imply anything here but is it a propper version of windows, EG did it come with the PC, if it did is the PC custom built or from someone like Dell or PC world, or did you install windows from a backup Copy of windows, the reason i ask is because windows requires you to have a propper version of windows to download any updates from windows update or are you just having trouble installing the updates? in which case i would put it down to something (virus trojan or otherwise) preventing windows update from installing.
