Windows XP Retail or OEM, which is better?

Besides costing less than retail does Windows XP OEM have any advantages over the retail version?

It's actually the other way around the advantages of retail are the nice pretty and very colorful box, the instruction manual, (which isn't much though), and retail gives you access to Microsoft telephone support center included. If you were to buy a Dell PC or some other such prebuilt PC you are basically getting OEM cause DEll or whomever you bought from is your point of support. Thats what OEM is for is computer builders, which is why most of us here buy OEM cause we don't need their support beyond what we or anyone else can just go to Microsofts support website and knowledge base and find out what we need and we have this here pcmech site for all the other support we require, so why pay all that extra money for a fancy colorful package??? On the other hand if you feel more comfortable with retail cause of the support then go for it, software wise there is no difference with either version...

I believe that you can uninstall a retail version from one computer and install it onto another computer. OEMs, you're stuck with the case it came in.

I don't think you can do that with either... unless you move the hard drive that it is installed on.

OEM isn't tied to one particular computer, unless it comes pre-installed from a retailer such as Dell, which does not provide you with the original Windows disc.

You are only allowed to have it installed on one PC at any one time, however.

This is the case with the Retail version, too.
