Recycle Bin has no C:
Hi, and thanks for reading.
I just used MaxBlast 3 to move an existing XP install to a new harddrive, partitioned the new drive, changed the letters for everything, and everything seems to be working just fine, I then installed the old drive on it's own to format it, everything went fine. I even got System Restore to work again. So I now have a 20 gig C for windows, a 230 gig D for whatever, and an 80 gig E for whatever. But here's the strange part. In the properties menu for the Recycle Bin, there are 3 tabs, one for Global, one for D, and one for E. No tab to set anything for C. If something is in the C drive and I delete it, it vanishes forever and I can't restore it. The bin is empty like nothing happend. If I delete something from D or E, then it goes into the bin, and the restore works just fine. If this were my computer I would not be so concerned, but it isn't. And I would really feel bad if this guy deleted something important on accident, and wanted to restore it. Any ideas would be appreaciated, thanks. Edit -- I do remember now that when I threw something away for the first time after the move, it said something about being corrupt, I didn't pay much attention to it at the time, wish I did.

Just fixed it. Here's where I found what to do incase anyone has a similar problem later. I found it while asking Jeeves.
![]() http://www.winserverkb.com/Uwe/Forum...ycle-bin-error Dave Patrick - 06 Jul 2004 19:44 GMT If format is NTFS then change to the recycler directory then change to the hidden directory named for your SID (this can be found from within Explorer, (by expanding the recycler folder). Then attrib -h info* this should unhide the info* file that stores the information about the original location of deleted files in the recycle bin. Delete this file Then the next time you move files to the recycle bin another hidden info file will be created. I deleted the file, restarted, and waa-laaa, it worked. Afterwards I was sure to Hide System files again. |
