Problems with add remove programs

I am currently working on a computer which had SBC dial, People Pc and Earthlink. I went to uninstall SBC and PeoplePC and they were not in add remove programs. Also not there was Norton Firewall 2004. Norton 2005 Antivirus not there, just about nothing there. I went into msconfig and unchecked everything to do with the ISPs I did not want and that made things work better. Then when I added a new program it did not show up in add remove either. What could be wrong and is it fixable?
thanks,
alan

First scan your system with your updated AV, Ad-aware, and Spybot S&D (do this in Safe Mode). Next go to Start>Run, type appwiz.cpl and click ok. You could also try this fix from here http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm item# 146.
