My friend has Windows Media Player 6.4 and is unable to play WMV movie clips.Yes, he has installed the Windows Media 9 Audio/Video Codecs from Microsoft web site.Whenever he plays a wmv clip it displays only a still portion of the initial part of the clip and then the whole video display area in the player turns green. The OS is Windows 2000.Maybe a later version of WMP may resolve the problem, but we would like to retain the 6.4 version. Please advise, Thanks.

No he needs to upgrade to WMP9.
What he can do, however, is go to a site like this one : http://www.customize.org/list/wmp and download a skin for the player if he doesn't like any of the selections Microsoft bundles with the player. That should at least give him something like the same "feel" he gets with 6.4. When he installs the new update remind him to disable the licensing feature. It's in Tools>Options>Copy Music>Protect Content.
