no pics sometimes, just little red X
Sometimes when I go to autotrader.com the pics won't show, just a little red X, when I right click on little x and hit "show picture", nothing happens, no pic.
Is this a Windows XP problem or is it the autotrader site? This is not a constant problem, sometimes pics show fine. This happens on other sites also, but I can't think of a example right now. Thanks

It should be the site's problem, but if you have a specific link you can post, that'd be helpful to tryout.

autotrader.com , I always use "power search" , my zip is 98274 .
I can be using it and pics are showing fine, then I go to a different web site , maybe a bunch of different ones, surfing, then go back to autotrader.com and I get no pics. I would appreciate it if you'd give it a try, let me know how it works for you. Thanks Robert |

I went to autosearch.com first, then to autotrader.com. I went thru the power search and viewed 20 pages of 25 listing / page. Not all ads had photos, but I didn't get any dreaded red-X's.
Try clearing / cleaning out your browser cache... sometimes that can make a difference. BTW, I'm using Firefox with a 5MB cache. TR |

I also had a problem viewing photos at www.AutoTrader.com. All I got in the ads were the little boxes with red "xs" and spent two days trying to resolve the problem. I did everything the reps at Autotrader and every user group I could find would tell me. I upgraded my browser to IE7, deleted cookies, temp files, etc..., tried disabling my firewall (just for a moment to test AutoTrader), disabling popup blocker software, disabling pfishing detection software, disabling antivirus software, resetting registry entries..., playing with every security setting under Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab.
Here's what fixed it for me: > Click on the "Start" Button > Click the "Run" option > Type "cmd" to get into the command mode > At the DOS prompt type in the following line (without the quotes...) > "ipconfig /flushdns" NOTE: There's a space between "ipconfig" and the "/". Here's the root cause of the problem in my simplistic understanding of it: If the server you are connecting to on the other end has changed their file locations, or anything that affects domain name serving, you are probably still using the old address stored on your local computer. The flushdns command rids your local computer of dns information and forces it to go out and get the new, updated stuff! You should now be able to see the photos of cars for sale at www.AutoTrader.com! Wow! What a relief!
