Reformating a Dell

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I couldn't find another place to go. I've tried reformating my Dell, but it seems to not be working properly. I have the Windows XP Home Edition disc that came with the Dell. I've tried putting it in, and then restarting and choosing the install new copy but that got me nowhere. I did everything else and got to the screen about either repairing or deleting a partitioned drive. I chose to delete the C: drive which was partitioned but it always comes up saying that it can't let me do that because there are some 'temporary files that it needs for the setup'. Is there anything I can do or another way of going about this so that I can format my computer? I've also read a bit and saw that some people have troubles formating a Dell, while for others it's simple.

Help.

Thanks in advance.

I've worked on a number of Dell's, and usually don't have much of a problem. I've had trouble before finding drivers for the nic or for the video, but you said you had the cd's that came with it, so they should be on those.

When you boot to disc, you want to install over the same windows folder, don't install another copy. Then you can format, don't delete the partition.

After that the cd should do the rest of the work, and restart the computer where it will finish the process and ask you for your name and cd key.

Do you have SP2 on the disc? Be sure to get all the updates from Microsoft.

On the cd itself may contain instructions on how to restore back a system. Just follow the instructions
