PC Shutdown
Howdy all. I not sure if this is the right area, but i have a pen4 with xp os and when I go to shut down, my pc turns off but starts right back up. How can I change it to stay off until I turn it back on.
Thanks Larry |

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?
What are the specs? Did this always happen or did it just start? If it just started, did you install something new recently? Cricket

Do you mean it reboots instead of shutting down? 'Cause that sounds like something is crashing (driver or background app).
There's a troubleshooter somewhere, but what I would do is go into your 'Windows Task Manager'(Ctrl>Alt>Delete) and end all of your processes before shutting down. If it still reboots then it's probably a driver and you'll need to reinstall them. Though, it could be a hardware problem. Hope I could help, ~Paint |

It is a home built pc. It has always restarted after I choseto shutdown. My Videocard crashed so I replaced it, and it would shut down fine. I disabled a few programs from startingup in the msconfig menu and it has done it ever since. My Daughter is coming over to use the pc while we are on vaction, I would like her to be able to shut down a walk away with out turn the main power switch off.
Thanks Larry |
