I have this real head scratcher that just materialised, and so far have been unable to find an answer to it.
My Desktop Icons have a coloured box behind their names, and I cannot get rid of it... I have tried several tips so far to no avail. I'm sure I was able to change this in the past, in fact I know it was clear before. Any ideas guys... D

Go to System Properties (Control Panel) and navigate to the Advanced tab. Here, click on the Settings button in the Performance group. Now on box that comes up, go to the Visual Settings tab and check the box for "Use drop shadows for icon labels on desktop". If it is already checked, uncheck and hit apply, then check and hit apply.
