NTLDR missing

NTLDR is missing, now I tried using the xp disk, going into the recovery console and using fixboot but that did not semm to work, is their a way to reinstall ntldr from a cd, like burning that onto a cd, then loading it in the recov. console? The second thing is, what command would you use to copy the file from the cd onto the windows installation?

Hags - you've a little bit of a double-post on this one (along with your thread in General Software). It takes a little getting used to, but it's easier for us to follow if you stick with one thread.

Dark Nova (over in the General Software thread) already gave you the tip to check in on your Bios settings. It does seem likely that something's not right in there. If you need help on exact Bios settings for your box, your motherboard manual is a good start, but advanced Bios information can be had in Adrian's famous Bios Optimization Guide (the older versions are free) http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=7&var1=18

There's also a good step-by-step (it also tells how to copy the XP system bootfiles, should yours be corrupted) in this ComputerHope troubleshooter: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000465.htm

I'd check the hardware first, then the software.
Best of luck
. . . Gary

try the recovery console again and use the command "fixmbr".
I have used this command many times and it has always worked to fix the "NTLDR" problem.

I had a problem once booting from the cd rom because it was not on IDE 1. When I put the cd rom on ide 1 and it was set as master it worked.

Let's keep it to one thread, Hags. I'm closing this one.
