Need Xp Repair Install.......

Ok, I need to perform a repair installation on a dell dimension 8300. Now when I pop in an XP disc and select to setup windows on that partition, I get no choice of doing a repair installaion. Now can every pc get a repair installation done on it or am I just doing something wrong?

Do as if you are going to install. XP will then discover an existing installation of XP and ask you if you want to repair or re-install. Select repair. Your files should remain intact but you should back them up just in case.

Is this the disk that came with the Dell? They tie the disk to their machine and another will not work. Is it a genuine XP disk or a "restore" disk?

It was a genuine disc, do I need to use the restore disc because it is a pre built machine?

You can't perform Repair install with recovery disc provided to you by Dell because it's an image, only thig that you can do is recovery to state when you bought that computer that is why is called recovery disc!!!

Repair install you can do only with full original version of Windows !!!

Use the Dell disk, recovery much the same as repair, check out the options, the Dell disk may have a repair option.

You can only repair a Dell XP install with a Dell CD - a generic XP will not give you the repair option.
