Feel like it is substantially better than xp?
Or Not worth the bother with the beta versions?

For now I have noticed that it's using far more resouces(memory, with less processes active ) than xp and my CPU goes from 10% to 90% usage when idle (on xp is stady on 2% when idle). But we will see yet what's happening!!!

I've installed AVG free Edition instead of Avast and it's working fine with Vista for now!!!
As a matter of fact I'm writing from it now!!! New EI is much better than old ones (easier to use) there is few flows(active content) but will see what I can do about it!!! Pop-up blocker is same one (maybe just newer) and there is Windows XP SP2 firewall unchanged!!! Forgot to mention that CPU usage is back down to 0% to 15% when idle!!! I changed the resolution on build 5219 this morning and the screen went blank. Haven't had a chance to look into a solution yet. (can't wait)

I wonder if it was the Vista version of the Indexing Service that jumped your CPU usage during idle periods. If you still had avast! on at that time, it might have been generating it's backup database, too, which it does during idle time, depending of user preference settings.
I was hoping the new file system would be ready with first version Vista, but it looks like it will have to wait. . . . Gary |
