Software Installing problem

Not on every software installation do i have a problem but im having problems trying to install some important drivers and my computer keeps giving me errors.

Ex. AC 97 drivers (soundcard) says this
"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The exacutable you are trying to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of this file, verify its integraty, and try again."

Then on my Catalist 5.9 ati drivers which i downloaded from sapphire AND Ati i get an error saying pretty much the same thing.

Why is this happening ! I tried installing Trillian and half way through the install it just goes away. No error , nothing, just gone ... GRRR!!!

can you post your specs and is this a new build or a recent reload of OS?

Try downloading again with your antivirus shut down. Macafee has a habit of mangling applications that I download. You could be having a similiar problem. But don't try that method for any source that you do not fully trust.
Also sometimes when an application will not install properly, this will work. Disconnect from the internet. Shut down firewall, antivirus, and anything else running in the system tray, close all open applications and all open windows. Try the install again. If it doesn't work reboot to restart your security and other background applications and reconnect to the internet.
Also you could try the install in safe mode.

What extension (ie: .rar, .zip) do these driver files have? and as for your sound card, is it a sound card or onboard sound? do you have your motherboard CD?

In System, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, uncheck the box for automatically restart so you can read the BSOD. We need exactly what it says (stop error, verbage) to try to help you. You may have defective ram, or you may have a flaky driver. "some driver for some hardware peice has an error" doesn't help us.

Well sorry i was not more specific. < I reformated my hard drive , just reloaded windows because i didnt really have anything on it anyway and i think the problem was the Asus firewall software. I didnt install that this time and everything loaded fine. Untill.... My hard drive crashed!!! DAM. I ordered a new one from Newegg , Sata 2 so im sure ill have a good time with that one.

Does anyone think that Seagate drives are loud or was mine prob just bad?

Seagates are generally quiet and among the most reliable out there. However, there's a bad apple in every barrel.
