screen freezing....
i've noticed more that my computer is freezing up - it just kinda freezes wherever it is at - everything will be there, including the mouse pointer, but can't do anything and no sounds either when clicking the mouse or hitting a key on the keyboard. i always have to manually restart it and then it works fine. i recently reformatted my computer, but this was going on a bit before i reformatted it also. it seems to happen more when i have left my computer idle for a few hours, i think it's only happened 1 or 2 times while i was actually using it. my memory usually stays around 50%, even with everything i run all at once, the highest i've ever seen it is about 60-60% usage. i have all current updates, all current drivers (video, chipsets, etc.)
specs: (home built) Windows XP Pro sp2 AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (1.8ghz) Chaintect Summit motherboard (7VIF4 - onboard video disabled and recently updated BIOS per motherboard company for trying to resolve video card poss. incompatibility) 1gb ram (2 x 512mb) 120gb HDD (9% free - main drive), 40gb HDD (backup/storage) BFG (Nvidia) Geforce 6200 OC 256MB 8x AGP (does not require power-supply to connect directly to it) Ultra X-Connect 500w PSU (only couple months old) case has 3 case fans, 1 pci fan (w/ a pci slot between it and video card), PSU has bottom/side fan, heatsinks on both sticks of memory recently vacumed out and thoroughly cleaned all fans including CPU fan have run memtest and found nothing wrong - i do know that i might have a slight issue between my video card and my motherboard since i get some weird coloring when booting up windows, but once it's loaded everything goes smooth with it - am going to eventually get a different card and have contacted my motherboard about it. just looking for any other ideas on what might cause this freezing issue? my case is very cool inside (much cooler than my room and the heatsink for the cpu doesn't ever get too hot to touch either *yes i'm bad but i wanted to make sure it wasn't getting too hot!*) |

It is likely that it relates to the problems in your other post. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=142126

it started before i did the reinstall and before i did that post - which i solved that problem in that post already. i think i am going to go purchase a new video card this weekend and see what happens.... since that is the only thing i can think of that would be causing these problems...
