Windows XP 64 bit?

Do you have to Windows XP 64-bit Edition if you have a 64-bit processor or is it optional? I want to build a new computer but I want to get it right the first time so I don't end up wasting money.

Thanks a lot,
Miles

Nope, I wouldn't use it. There isn't a whole lot of of 64-bit driver support out there, especially legacy devices.
