Windows XP cd wont boot in DOS

after getting a load of viruses and spyware on my pc i decided it was time to wipe the slate clean. i managed to reformat my hard drive with no problems but when i thell the BIOS to boot from a CD (windows XP pro).i teels me i have an invalid systems disk.
trying to find a way around this i used and old windows 98 boot disk (floppy) and started my pc with it. but now when i change my file path to my cd drive and tell dos to run setup.exe it tells me that the program will not run in DOS mode.

if anybody knows a way around this i would be very grateful

you cannot boot the XP setup program from a Win98 floppy.

have a look in your BIOS for 'Boot Sequence' and ensure CD-ROM is above and HDDs
