HI folks:
I was just down at computer shop to find out cost of new MB & CPU (AMD 64). using remaining parts from my other comp. He said because I'm switching from a AMD Athlon 1.1 G Chip and ECS MB to a AMD 64 3000+ and equivilant MB I would have to reformat my current hard drive to reinstall XP. Can you please tell me the reason for doing it. or can I reinstall XP without lossing my programing Thanks very much Thomsign |

that may not be entirely true, you really should install all the drivers and software for the new motherboard as soon as the xp is installed and before any other software is installed.
but you might be able to get away without doing it if you install the drivers and software for the motherboard the first thing. it will eather work good that way or it won't work at all. you will need to call microsoft for a new activitation code when your done. |

A repair reinstall of XP is all you need. It rewrites the hardware layer without messing with any software. Boot with the XP CD, choose setup, when it finds the existing install it will allow you to repair it. Don't choose repair from the first screen (repair or setup), that's just the console.
