There is a barrier at 137gb in systems limited to 28bit LBA (Logical Block Addressing).

You can have 48bit LBA support by using that Maxtor PCI card, but you'll likely have to flash it's bios to get that support (the original version didn't support 48bit LBA). Here's the link to the flash update http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Ma...&downloadID=28

Systems with recent Intel chipsets can use the Intel Application Accelerator drivers, which support 48-bit LBA, and replace the OS controller drivers for Win98se/Me/2000/XP.

For full details, here are a few links from the Maxtor site.

137gb Barrier Detailed Instructions in Adobe Acrobat format http://service.maxtor.com/rightnow/p..._Solutions.pdf

I don't know if either a Bios update for the motherboard, or a more recent version of the Via chipset drivers, would yield a suitably compatible IDE controller driver or not. I'd have to check (and that might have to wait till tomorrow - since it's late here. . . )

If you decide on the Maxtor card, with the bios update (for the card) you should be OK.

Best of luck

You can exceed the 137gb limit in hardware, but you are limited to 128gb or smaller partitions. This cannot be exceeded. You will also need a 3rd party partitioning tool or an updated FDISK to work with drives larger than 64gb properly. Use the controller card, and update its bios.
