100%CPU Usage
Hi guys..
Have a slight problem..nothing too major but a tad annoying. I'll describe it as best I can. I'm on a Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop..only about 6 months old..intel celeron..256 MB RAM and 30 GB HD. It was only something that I could type on and stuff for college so I understand it's not going to be that powerful..but in the past month or two, programs such as Windows Media Player would play away fine for the first few minutes and then all of a sudden start using 97%-100% of the CPU usage. Everything starts to drag and I have to close media player or whatever program it happens to down. I know it's not a big deal but if a film was being watched etc it's annoying to have to keep closing it down. Any ideas? |

Have you done virus and spyware scans on the system?

Yup..several times since the problem first occured..the spyware was cleared and the only virus that comes up is the JavaByteVerify...I can't seem to get rid of this one at all..this is probably causing the problem?

Just to eliminate the possibility of the JBV being the cause, here's a "how-to" remove:
Here are the instructions on how to manually remove these malicious applets from the JRE cache directory: 1. From the Start button, click Settings> Control Panel 2. In the Control Panel, open the "Java Plug-in Control Panel" 3. Select the Cache Tab 4. Click the Clear button inside the Cache Tab, which will clear your JRE cache directory

are you sure its the program you're using that's eating the CPU?
It could be a service that runs in the backround.. I had a similar problem and i had to shut down the MS office startup procedures , then everything worked fine. try start - run - msconfig to see what application uses your CPU |

Open the task manager and see if rundll32 is running, and eating up mass processor time, most antiv /adware/ spyware removers will pull this bug for you, careful, it looks like a legitimate service, u can tell because it will be hoggin 75-98% of ur porcessor time
