Task shutdown

I am trying to get my computer to task shutdown and it won't allow it to because it say's that either I am hot ortherised or it won't allow it to do the task.
Any Ideas on how to get this to work? Please, as I have tried a lot of things and it still doesn't work. I am not that bright on these things but sometimes I get there in the end after a long time. by the way I am useing XP
Walter.

Here's a MS KB article that explains how. Plus it indicates this was a problem that was resolved with SP2.
