why won't itunes open?

so my computer freaked out like 6 months ago because my roommates got viruses on the thing, and my brother in law had to wipe the computer clean and reinstall windows and everything. thing is that he used a cd-rom other than the one that came with my laptop, which is a dell 5150. since he did this my computer runs much better generally, besides a couple small glitches. here's the thing though: i want to run itunes, even though i still don't have an ipod (can't wait for christmas). itunes even came on the version of XP that he installed on my computer. however the application does not open. so i even uninstalled it from my computer and downloaded it directly from apple's site. it says it downloaded correctly and all, but it still won't open. what do i have to do to get it to work? pretty much everything works on my laptop, even though it has a hard time shutting down sometimes, and you can't close the 'search' application. and now this itunes thing.... but other than that i don't have any other problems. any advice? thanks...

For now just go here and read through the Install & Upgrades forum : http://discussions.info.apple.com/we...Ix.0@.68a50588

For starters it sounds like your system protection is shutting iTunes down (you don't post any errors messages) but you can read about that there as well.
This is a specialist forum, just iTunes on Windows stuff, but it's thorough.
