Can you give us a little more information about your computer software?
What antivirus program are you using and how often do you run scans? What antispyware scanners do you use and how often do you run scans? How many applications have a check mark in the box next to them in MSCONFIG?

Hi Tumas
If you havent recently, you could run a disk clean up to clean out your temporary internet files, temp files, recycle bin files etc and then run chkdsk. Have you analyzed your fragmentation levels? Its possible that your HDD maybe be running out of space or is fragmented, this cud affect your boot/shutdown. Run the disk defragmenter. Also see if you need more RAM. And as rjfvillarosa said, trim ur start up list. Also here is a useful link http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm |

Hi Tumas, i have a feeling Norton could be slowing down things, have heard such issues from many. Personally would recommend AVG. Just my opinion though.
Does the problem persist even after upgrading RAM? Any change at all in speed? |

G'day
Yes mate. I agree with mushroom. The sooner you get rid of Norton the better. Here are many lighter-on-resources-Antivirus programs that are free and are far better than Norton. How many items do you have in the "start up". You only need you Firewall, and Antivirus programs there. Nothing else. You'll see the difference. Good luck John
