Disk Boot Failure after XP install

Just installed Windows XP with service pack 2. It took me to Windows XP desktop. I thought everything was good. So i put some music on it. Then i shut it down. When i started it up again it said disk boot failure insert system disk. So I figured installing the OS would cure this. Then I reboot and I get Disk boot failure again, install system disk, ***. lol. So i though lets put the XP cd back in. But it only boots up when i have the XP cd in. I havent registered it yet but i dont think that should matter. I also tried setting boto divice to only HD. BUt that didnt work either. I only have that 1 partion also. BIOS say HD is on IDE Channel 0 Master and burner on IDE Channel 1 Slave. So that all looked good to me.

Everything works except when i restart or shutdown. Not sure if you need system but here it is:
Motherboard: ECS 661FX-M
CPU: Intel p4 2.8
HD: WD 80gig set to master on IDE channel 0
NEC 1300a burner
No Floppy

Well any clues to what this Long post and Disk Failure can be. Helppp!!. Thanks Brandon

I would say that you should check batery on your mobo but first check that time and date is set corectly in BIOS !!!
And as well you should check jumper settings on HDD if is set to Master try set it to CS (cable selection) try to do that on all your drives set them on CS!!!

WD drives cannot be set to Master if there is no slave present. You must remove the jumper for single operation or use Cable Select with 80 wire Ultra ATA cables.

thanks changing it to CS setting made it boot up no problem. Now if i add another Western Digital hardrive does that also have to be set to CS or should it be set to slave. They would be on the same IDE channels.
thanks Brandon

If it's an 80 wire cable you would use CS on that one also. Master drive goes on the end of the cable, slave drive on the middle connector.
