WINxp Licensing Limitation
I've been asking around regarding what are the limitations on using a single license WINxp OS. I get conflicting remports. The way I understand it was that when you first load the OS and activate it, MS records a signature of your computer based on certain components such as the motherboard, hard disk, etc. which will identify it. If there is a major configuration change in the PC, it is detected and they (MS) will request you to re-activate. I have done that.
However, someone said that I cannot load the OS in the primary and secondary HD in my computer. And that I have to obtain a separate license if I wish to load it in a new hard drive. Can anyone shed some light on this. Thanks Don |

You can load the OS on your primary and 2ndary hard drive without issue. Your license is for running on one computer and that's what you're doing.

The question really is - why would you want to do that?

That really was not my intention. I was simply citing a situation whereby the licensing of the OS may become an issue. What I really wanted to do is to install a SATA drive and make that as my primary thus I will need to transfer or load my OS into it. When finished, I will have the OS in only one drive.

The easiest thing to do is clone the drive then reformat the old drive for storage. If you have to reactivate, so be it, it's painless. M$ doesn't hassle people over this.
