Compaq Modem Driver - Win 98SE
I'm trying to find a Win 98SE driver for a Compaq Presario 1200, model 12XL310. I have tried the Compaq/HP website with no luck. Does anyone know what kind of modem is in this? So I can upload a driver.

you can try loading the standard windows driver for the card...OR take the numbers off the card and visit www.driverguide.com

This is a laptop that I'm not willing to take apart at this time. I'm just looking for a driver for the Modem.

The Product Specifications for that model list the modem as: 56K ITU V.90 PCI modem. Your model (Presario 1200) is listed in the modem section at driverguide.com. Just use "drivers" for logon name and "all" for password. Then select the "click here" to avoid a new account.

I've tried about 10 drivers. If anyone has any suggestions I'm running Win 98SE.

I tried that last link; it installed a modem driver for me, but I'm still unable to get a connection with the modem, using internet connection wizard or phone dialer. When I go through Control Panel\Modems, nothing is listed and I can't get it to "add" a modem. Is it possible that this modem is not designed for Win 98, because this laptop originally had Win ME on it? Or is it possibly just a defective modem.
I talked to the owner (friend of mine) and said he didn't care if the modem worked or not he hooks up through a USB/DSL connection anyway. If anyone has any other suggestions and/or comments I'm still interested. |

It has to be a defective modem. That's the genuine Compaq driver.
The modem is replaceable, by the way, and there's replacements all over the Net for $49 and less. |
