When I turn on my computer, it says this file is either missing or corrupted
I have another computer and have the file, do i need to put it on discet and just insert it for my computer to work? |

The problem is the computer im on now that I got the hal.dll file off of doesnt have a floppy drive, can I make a boot disc with a cd?

Why not boot with your XP cd and do a repair?

i dont have it, it came with home edition built in. so what can i do?

You can boot it with any XP CD to use the repair console. No legal issues here, you aren't trying to install anything.
The last one I worked on with a missing hal was actually a virus that corrupted the boot.ini file. It was a nasty little bugger - it would replace a good boot.ini with a corrupted one every time I tried to boot with the contents of a hidden file. Had to find the hidden file, delete it, and replace the boot.ini with a clean hand edited one. I slaved the drive into another machine to do this. I still had to boot with a CD and run chkdsk /p in the console to finish up and get it to boot all the way. |

Not sure if you have fixed prob or not but I had same error about 2 months ago and this is how i fixed at this link.
