Stop these startups!

On a windows 2000 Pro machine, there is no msconfig unless you add it yourself but I do not have that option. So my question is how can I eliminate everything that is set to startup on this machine with no msconfig??

It's all in the Registry; MSCONFIG is just a way into the registry, and a not very good way at that.

Open regedit and go to these two keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Delete the keys for the programs you don't want running on startup.

As always when working with the registry, keep in mind that if you don't know what you are doing, you can hose your Windows installation. It may not be a bad idea to export those keys before you start deleting, so you can go back to the beginning if you run into any unforeseen things. Select a key, then click on File...Export to export it.

It's been a while since I worked on Windows 2000, but the version of regedit with that version of Windows may allow you to bookmark the key location, which is a good idea so you can quickly go back in the future.
