Windows Xp login
Heya,
I have a computer that is running Windows XP home. It is a dell desktop. It boots fine up untot the welcome screen for user login. It says welcome, but none of the users are listed. I have tried hitting ctrl-alt-del and using that login in, but we dont use passwords so the login wont work. I have tried going into safe mode but the same thing happens. Any other ideas? |

Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > change the way users log on/off > and there enable Welcome screen and fast user swiching !!!

Try boot in Safe Mode then remove what you did first check how many users are listed in Users Account in Control Panel!
Or http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm try to find answer here. |

Did your Dell come with an XP disk or just a Restore partition? Try unplugging your network/internet connection and see if it will boot.

The dell came with the XP disk. Also I can't unplug the internet, it is a wireless card.

At the Safe Mode boot screen select a Restore Point boot option or Last Known good option. (something like that). If that doesn't work, try removing the wireless nic. Sometimes Network conflicts can cause boot problems. If none of that works, I'd use the XP disk and do a Repair Install. If you're unsure of how check back here and we'll walk ya thru it.

Frist make sure the bios boot order is set so the CD drive is before the hard drive. Insert the XP CD in the drive and exit the bios Saving Changes. Watch the screen and when you see "Press any key to boot from cd...." press a key or the space bar. Follow the prompts to do a New Installation (skip the Repair by Repair Console) until the existing XP installation is found. At that point you are offered the option to Repair the Existing XP installation. Say yes to that option.
