CRASH Windows ME will not boot with 4 in 1 drivers

Can some one help?
I have a system running windows ME that will not boot up normally it will boot in safe mode. I formatted the drive and all was fine but when I loaded the 4 in 1 drivers for my motherboard and went to reboot it I got a black screen and that was all, it will only start now in safe mode.
My System is AMD 2700 XP chip with a gigabyte GA-7VA motherboard that has a VIA KT400 chipset and an ATI radeon 9550 video card.
I just put the computer together form parts I had around the place all have been checked and work fine on my other computer running XP.
I am running the latest bios but the system only has 256mb of ram is this the problem? I ran a memory test on the ram and it appeared fine.
Any help would by great

Once in safe mode you have to remove the faulty drivers an or device and reboot and let windows use the drivers it wants to for now. You'll probably need to revert back to an earlier version of the 4n1 drivers, if you read closely they state that the newest version may not work well with win 9x/me and they also list the best versions to use with certain chipsets..

Was it the version 4.43 4n1 from the Gigabyte download pages? http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Motherbo...Rev%202.x).htm

Note that on that page they also have the via 2.0 USB driver.

Might check in the bios settings, too, if you've flashed recently: just to make sure a setting isn't off that's throwing things for a loop.
