I've been searching the forum for a solution to my login problem, but anything I try just seems to make things worse.
I've recently moved to XP Home, and the first couple of weeks seemed fine, but downloading the .Net framework seems to have mucked everything up. I've avoided it for years, but I've now ordered Norton Ghost for a specific purpose, and I'm told it needs the .Net framework. I downloaded it via Windows Update and it seems to have added a Guest User account(switched off) and an ASP NET machine limited user account. Previously it just started straight into my desktop without any action on my part, but now I have to click the user icon before it goes onto load my startup programs. It also requires a click after the screensaver has come on. One of the suggested changes has at least left me with just my user account to click on, but other suggested changes left me locked out for several attempts before going into Safe Mode and reversing the change. Before that it just kept coming up with Unable to log in to your user account because of an account restriction. There's only me using this machine, so do I need the other accounts, and if not, how do I get rid of them? Any advice would be very welcome, Chris |

If you have no need for the .Net capabilities you can delete the ASP account from any other account with Admin priviledges. Just use the Control Panel>User accounts to remove the .Net account.

Thanks for the reply, but to be honest, I'm not sure if I do need the .net user.
I've had no use for it before, but as I said, I've ordered Norton Ghost and I'm told that requires the .Net framework. Does that imply that I have to leave the ASP Net user in place? Chris |

There seems to have been a related error in the .Net Framework 1.1 and that solved some problems by downloading the service pack for that, the additional users were removed.
The member who included a link to Kelly's Corner http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp.htm also helped a lot. What a great place for finding XP info. Thanks to all, Chris |
