XP Pro 64Bit : Confused//

Ok.. Built a new AMD 64 bit machine..

Well basicly.. I got Xp Pro 64 bit edition and i suck in the cd and turned on the pc and startedt o install it....

As you all know it formats the hardrive first - 200gig digtal one..

Anyway all was going smooth till it hit 80% formatted and then it stalled.. I gave it an hour and restarted the pc..

When it restarted i wentedt o do it again and it said that 92% of the harddrive was formated/partitioned the other 8% wasn't so I selected this and installed xp on it..

? Any ideas about the 8% etc?

If you went thru setup again why didn't you try formating unpartitioned space???
Is your XP recognising unpartitioned space (you can check in Disk Managment) you can format that space if it's recognised!!!

That is a weird problem, I have only run into that when dealing with a hard drive that was failing. That's a Western Digital drive right? Run the Data Lifeguard utilitiy diagnostics on that drive to see if there is anything wrong with it. Then run the Windows setup again.

If that doesn't work then you might want to look at this.

I encounter that problem (stalling on the installation, slow operation afterwards) when the HD is going bad. You may want to get a new drive.

You don't need 2GB of ram for Windows x64 edition, I ran the same version with only 512MB installed before.

Did you install SATA drivers when prompted for them during Windows setup? Try flashing your BIOS with the latest version.

Check the motherboard manufactuer's website for updated drivers and make sure they work under 64bit windows. I would check but I need your motherboard model.

Try updating your BIOS, make sure that your motherboard chipset drivers are installed and that they are 64 bit drivers. Try swapping out components like your video card to see if those drivers are the problem.

Try a non SATA2 hard drive if all else fails.

Could you be a bit more specific about the motherboard model? "Anus Delux" really doesn't tell me anything!

There are issues with SATA2 drives and certain chipsets.

Is it the ASUS A8V DELUXE, because this one doesn't support SATA 2.

If it is, you have to turn off SATA2 in the drive's firmware - the WD site tells you how.
