Having a Problem installing windows xp home

Ok i am building a budget pc and so far its been the build from hell. from the ups loosing packages and now this.

The machine boots up BIOS run and everything looks good

I pop in my windows disc, it loads the setup looks good. Get to the screen that asks you to Press Enter to continue, R to repair, ect...

So I press enter. and all it does is hang and says

Please Wait...

What is causing this? i think it may be memory but i am unsure here is the build:

Is the XP CD a new, original one? Sounds like it's damaged.

ok here is the update.

When I try formating the HDD it freezes at 0% it just locks up. I don't understand.

I am thinking the hard drive is bad I tried 2 seperate XP discs and they both freeze, tried 2 seperate CD roms and they both freeze at the same point.

Does anyone have any suggestions one why it is doing this?

Hey I am going to bump this topic.

What would cause the system to freeze when formating windows?

I am going to try a new hard drive this morning.

Try turning the BIOS antivirus off if you have it. It can cause problems with an OS install. You can start it back up after you have windows up and running.

I don't think that the mobo has an antivirus, i think the mobo might be defective. I don't think its communicating with the HDD currectly. I tried other hard drives and still could not format the HDD. I bought a new motherboard today and will RMA this one hopefully all works out.

You don't need RAID drivers with one hard drive. And you don't need to install the SATA drivers unless your SATA controller requires it. Check the bios and make sure the hard drive is seen there. If it is, there should be no need for additional drivers. Do you only have ONE power connector connected to your hard drive? That's all you want connected. Make sure you have no usb devices connected, including the front panel usb connector. If you've plugged it into the mobo, disconnect it until XP is installed.

Is your processor being recongnized correctly? I've had a couple of 754 mobo's that had to have the bios updated before the Sempron was properly recognized.

Just some random thoughts.

Are you using the disks that came with other computers or are you using a new one that you got with your parts?

The one from the laptop is probably keyed to the laptop and won't work because of that. Use the other one.

Two things.
1: That motherboard does have BIOS antivirus 2: If the XP cd came with your laptop and you already have it on 2 other machines, you are attempting an illegal installation.

I've got exactly the same problem, with a K8N and Sempron 3000+. I've tried just about everything but no cigar. Let me know if swaping the motherboard fixed it so i can send mine back.

Once again: that motherboard DOES have a BIOS antivirus. Read the motherboard manual BIOS section and it will tell you how to mturn it off during the OS install.
