running programs momentarily gray out

I've noticed that open programs on my pc tend to gray out momentarily. I'm using windows XP pro/sp2. Could this be causes by some other program I have running or maybe a power supply issue?

When I first noticed it, I had my e-mail program open (MS Outlook 2000) checking my messages. The title bar would gray out for a few seconds, then darken as normal.

Of course, while stalled, your typed input won't take. I can't say that I've noticed this happening with other programs. It could be a problem with Outlook because I get an error message everytime I close the program. The message basically say that your information may be lost and to click for more details. The details box give a long string of alpha numeric digits.

I'm running WinXP sp2.

Something is running in the background that's stealing the window focus. Scan for viruses, trojans, and spyware - and examine your startup items.
