Random Shutdowns
I have a friend who is having some trouble with her Toshiba laptop.
She left her laptop on while she went out for a while, and when she got back it had turned itself off. She said it was not only charged, but plugged into the wall, and it didn't go into hibernation/standby mode. When she turned it back on, she got a message that asked her if there was problem with the power, and it gave her one option for that scenario, or if she didn't know what happened, she could just have it boot normally, which is what she did. While loading Windows, it turned off. Upon booting it again, she was presented options for safe mode, safe mode with networking, regular boot, or regular boot with the most recent configuration. Regular booting keeps shutting down while loading Windows, but she was able to boot into safe mode. While talking to her on the phone, I had her run housecall in safe mode. Again, she left the computer for a short while, only to come back to it being off! I am thinking (especially because she doesn't keep her anti-virus updated), that it might have something to do with a virus/trojan/malware. Has anybody had similar problems, and could you share what the fix was? Any ideas on what the problem is here? Thanks for the help! |

2. Does the power plug on the back of the laptop wiggle a lot? The charging light should stay lit. I would look at the "power options" in Control Panel. Look at the third tab to see how much power the battery has. |
