windows update won't install

I am running win xp sp2, and all has been well until I tried to perform a windows update of an ie6 security update. I have attached a file with 2 screen dumps of the messages i get. The system has downloaded the update but won't install it. I know this because I have tried going to the windows update site, where it checks my system and tells me the update concerned has been downloaded and is ready to be installed.
