windows can't find its sector during GUI setup

Hey again,
Well my recent problem is that I keep getting a Fatal Error saying it can't find sector when i enter the GUI part of the windows xp pro install. Im guessing this is either the boot sector or sector windows in installed on? BIOS recognizes the hard drive, windows recognizes the drive up until that point, I've installed my SATA drivers. I've ran checks on the hard drive itself with maxtor powermax and it checks out ok everytime.

I've reformated the drive countless times already, and thats not the problem. This ones got me good...would a bios update help at all here ? I use to get this problem before when i used quick format when i had RAID 0 on both maxtor drives cause whenever i did a full format id get a hal.dll problem (which i found out was caused by one of my brand new hd's failing). I dunno if trying to use a different O/S would work...i have 98,2k,upgrade xp home,xp pro disks. But my video card will only work on XP . If anyone has any suggestion plz lemme know...

Test the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic utility.
