PC Won't Start in Normal Mode

I am running Win XP pro and few days ago it kept restarting when getting to win logo screen. Stopped auto reboot and got blue screen with "Multiple IRP Request" error 0x00000044. Have researched on MS site and it suggest could be new hardware - not that only new haardware is router but has been there for a month or so, new software - have removed all new installed hardware over past few weeks, no go.

Windows will start in safe mode but cannot do a system restore as it reboots repeatedly when it gets to win logo screen. Thought problem was with Bit Tornado software but have removed but prob still exists. Also comp locks and reverts to grey screen when i switch user accounts and then log out of the second user account. Apparently there is a hotfix but I cannot find. Anyone . . . please . . . help.
