XP Startup List - Blank Entry?!?
I just noticed in my Startup List in the System Config Utility two entries that have me puzzled...
The first is BLANK in the Startup Item column, BLANK in the Command Column, and has a Location key of HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. The second says 1 in both Startup Item and Command Columns, with an identical Location Key. Any thoughts?

First I would open Regedit and make your way to HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. then see if there is anything. If not it could have occured when you uninstalled a program, maybe if you had disabled the start up before and unistalled after, and the start up stayed yet the program and its corresponding files were gone.
After, I would run Hijack This and see if anything more comes up in its start up list. I would do a quick search by pasting your HJT log into http://www.hijackthis.de/en and see what the description is, perhaps it might have been added by spyware. I had one entry once in my parents start up list which was just a medly of foreign characters and turned out to be malware of some sort.

I see nothing out of the ordinary at that spot in the registry. I'm assuming HKCU = HKEY_Current_User. There's a (Default) entry with Data as (value not set)...? Dunno if that's standard or not.
I'll run HJT later if I get the chance. Any other possibilities? |
