Here's a stumper!
It all started two weeks ago...
I was playing around with Microsoft's IIS packages and tried to set up an ftp server. After playing for a few days I couldn't seem to login although everything seemed fine. I eventually set the authorization to annonomous/passwordless in attempt to login. After working on it for a couple more days I completely forgot all about. After coming home from work tonight, I noticed some network activity on my taskbar network device icon. So I CTRL+SHFT+ESC to look at the network traffic and sure enough, I'm recieving something (yellow graph bar is really active). The first thing that came to mind was the FTP server so I explore to the ftproot directory and I noticed that someone was uploading a movie in individual .RAR packages. So immediately went to add/remove programs to uninstall the ftp server and all network activity ceases and decists. I went back to the ftproot directory and tried deleting the some 34 RAR files and only 12 actually deleted. I tried again and I get an error: Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the souce file or disk. Hmm... So I immidiately booted up with a knoppix cd and tried deleting it that way, but again it failed. So I did some research and someone recommended using MoveOnBoot.exe, basically an issue with Windows locking the file. This didn't work either. Alternatively I refered to Microsoft and tried Inuse.exe but was let down again when an error occurred saying the the destination file doesn't exist. Apparently Windows doesn't think the file exists even though its visable and able to populate properties and file sizes for the some 22 remaining RAR files. I can't change any properties (ie. read only, etc...) so it is locked in some way. It's comsuming about 360 Mb of HDD space that is valued. Any idea's how to remove these files? Thanks, Shaun |

Try a program which deletes file the next time you boot up. I know hijack this has an option for it, and so do other programs, check your AV software and see if it allows you to remove the files upon the next reboot. If so, then try it out.

Boot with the OS CD and try deleting the files using the repair console.
