Hi All:
When I start my computer it shows me a black screen asking me to choose which operating system I want to use. Can I get rid of this so it will just go on into windows without asking? Thanks ahead of time, your help is very much appreciated !! Bill Lane OS: WinXP

What is being displayed? Is it just a duplication of whatever OS is on your computer, or do you have two different operating systems?

Hi Dark Nova & doctorgonzo:
I only have one operating Systen (Windows XP Pro). I have two hard drives, but no operating system on the second hard drive. This black start screen gives me two choices, "Windows XP Professional" or "Microsoft Windows". I tried "Microsoft Windows" once just to see what would happen, nothing. It just bugs me that I have to click on a choice or wait a few seconds while it counts down for it to go on in by it's self. Thanks, Bill Lane |

All you have to do is change the boot.ini file in the root directory of your C: drive. Remove the line that includes "Microsoft Windows" under the [operating systems] section and you should be set; don't touch the other line that includes "Windows XP Professional".
To get to that file, either look in C:\ (make sure you have "display hidden and system files" on), or right-click on My Computer, select Properties, then the Advanced tab, Settings under "Startup and Recovery" options, then the "Edit" button. If you have doubts about what to do, post the contents of the boot.ini file here and we can help. |

Thanks doctorgonzo, that was just what the doctor ordered, worked like a dream.
No more asking me what OS I want to use. Thanks a whole bunch, really appreciate that, Bill Lane |
