Windows Xp pro install help.

Hi there,

My Uncle gave me his windows Xp pro disk and when i insert it asks me what i want to do and i clicked on Install windows Xp but it says-

Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD.

But i would like to have xp pro alongside xp home as i would just use the Home version to play games on.
any help appreciated.

First, is that a legal copy of Windows XP Pro, or are you "borrowing" his copy? You can't install Windows on two computers from one CD, so if it is not legal, we can't help you.

Second, why do you want separate Home and Pro installs? There's really no purpose to that.

I agree with doctorgonzo .. it's sheer overkill to have both Pro and Home, either use one or the other - preferably whichever is legal. There is going to be no advantage to your gaming.

Yeah Its a legal copy, only my uncle has gone back to Windows 2000 so he gave me his cd of Xp pro.
I wanted to keep the xp home version on my comp just incase i mess up installing Xp pro and lose my home version as i only have a recovery cd for the Home edition.

Then the question is why do you want to do this? What is your goal?

If you just want XP Pro on your computer, and not home, I would format the drive and do a clean install of XP Pro. You don't need Home.
