29 Gytes not allocated on C: drive

I dont know where I went wrong, but heres the story, I formatted my hard drive following a virus crash. and reinstalled XP and all has gone fairly well but when sorting out another problem in disk management I find that 29 Gig of my 60 gig hard drive is not allocated.
so where do I go from here. I right click on the drive icon in disk managment window and it gives the option for "new partition" and the partition wizard window opens asking me what partition do I want to create Primary or Extended. Well thats as far as I went and backed out. I know I dont want to create another primary partition and if I select to create extended partition will it create it without wiping out XP. I dont want to go to the trouble of starting from scratch again if I can help it.I need help desperately on this one guys.
Everything is working just fine up to now but I've only got half of my hard drive useable.

Just select extended and then format.
