Im having a problem,I cannot switch between the two user accounts that i have set up mine and my roomates. if i log off and select switch

and i then try to access my account from hers.im using xp pro ,amd athlon xp 2200+,512 ddr,120 gb seagate hd,nvidia fx5200 agp, via mb.Ive also been trying to tweak with the services found in control panel, computer management and have been trying to start the service;Term service whichi bellieve is supposed to fix this problem and everytime i try to start it i get an error and it wont start.ive attached a pic of the error message .

Any suggestions would be geatly appreciated.

Go to control panel-user accounts-change the way users log on or off- check Use Fast User Switching and hit apply.

Is that computer part of a domain? That could be the problem. See this Microsoft article.

I think the issue is what programs are running when you try to switch accounts that may be causing the hang.

If it were me I`d run some serious Spyware\Adware, AV apps followed by a hiJackthis clean up on the system.

i run adaware, and spybot s&d all the time and ive cleaned my system out of any spyware and i dont think its a program thats hanging, i think its a service thats failed to start.whenever i go into computer management>services and look for the Termservice and look at the description it says" Allows you to connect additional workstations and support additional users on a Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer."so im assuming thats the cause and its obvious that the service is not running and whenever i try to start the service i get an error ive even taken a screenshot and attached it to this post.what im trying to figure out here is how to fix or replace the files that the service needs to run, without doing a new installation of xp.

My next suggestion would be to check Event Viewer and post any errors or failure audits that correspond with the problems you are having. Post the Event Id with the description.

do you have all your windows service packs and updates installed. thats what they recommend to cure the dcom event id:10005 errors you have in your event viewer.

try running a windows repair from your xp cd.
boot to the cd. and choose the second Repair option. dont choose the first one otherwise it will start the recovery console

i went ahead and did a an upgrade from the installation disk and i did the updated setup files and it repaired my windows installation like a charm.it fixed the fast user switching problem like a charm as well. And everything! was preserved all my accounts showed so im happy thanks for the tip.but i found out that all these problems started when i did service packs and windows updates so now im afraid to update that often.
