Angry Software updates showing up as unknown hardware

I've been having some problems updating software in my laptop (Win XP Home SP2). It all started with Symantec's systemworks update. I updated but after now I'm always getting the "new hardware found" message every time I start up windows. According to it the new hardware is "Symantec network Drivers Service" and, of course, there are no drivers. Now, upon installing Net framework 2 I get a new piece of "new" hardware called ".NET runtime optimization service v2.0.50727_x86". And I get "new" hardware with every update. Currently, appart from the 2 I've already mentioned, I have "Office source engine" and "Windows user mode driver framework".

I've already tried un-installing and re-installing to no avail. Help!!!

Personally I would try doing a system restore to before you installed systemworks; it just does not work!

Mhhhh......I think it might be a bit too late for that. I've already installed a whole lot of software since. However, I had Systemworks installed long before I started getting that problem.
