which os should I use?
Running an IBM ThinkPad 240.
has 192 mb of ram (thats max upgraded) 6 gb hd celeron 300mhz cpu Putting aside cost differences, would windows 98se or windows 2000 run faster on it? (this computer probably will never be put on the internet, will be used mainly as a word processor) |

Win98SE will definitely run faster on it. Win2k is going to be slow. I'd recommend Win98SE.

I'd actually go with 2000. My wife has a Pentium 266/80 MB RAM which was running 98 and I recently upgraded it to 2000. Runs much more stable and the boot time difference is only about 15 seconds.
Recommended RAM for 2000 is 64 MB I believe, so your system should run fine. |

I believe the 2000 os will allow use of newer versions of MS office (if that's what you plan to use) Office 2000 and later is still supported for updates but older versions are not. I'd use Win2K on it too. Check first to see if drivers are available though.

98 would run a lil faster but I'd go with the stability of 2000 over 98 anyday.
![]() Performance = Speed or Performance = Stability?
